Représentants de Nio, l'Hercule japonai... OF Felice Beato
Représentants de Nio, l'Hercule japonais
Felice Beato lives in Japan for twenty years or so, between 1863 and 1884. He produced many photographies of landscapes, architectures, some portraits and genre works. His works were realized in black and white, but some were coloured by hand, giving them an illustrative function, an artificial aesthetic forcing on the local colour, and, thus, systematising a folklore that could serve the imagination of the westerners.
This artwork is a photography from the beginnings period. It belongs to the ethnic photography style.
« Représentants de Nio, l'Hercule japonais » is kept at J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, USA.
